Yesterday, Lawyer Gu Liping was awarded the title of one of the Top Ten Debaters in the Shanghai Lawyer Debate Competition. Lawyer Song remarked that this honor showcases Lawyer Gu's professionalism and demeanor more vividly than even his previous recognition as an Outstanding Young Lawyer in Shanghai.

On the debate stage, Lawyer Gu is passionate and eloquent, commanding the room with his presence.

However, in the courtroom, we see a different side of him—gentle and composed. In the face of verbal games, insults, defamation, and even unfair trials, Lawyer Gu demonstrates remarkable restraint and patience, calmly presenting facts and reasoning.

In debates, there is no "standard answer" to the propositions, whether affirmative or negative. For example, "Whether signing a prenuptial agreement is more beneficial or harmful to a marriage" naturally has pros and cons that vary from person to person. To compete, debaters are assigned one-sided positions and must use debate techniques to "avoid the main issue" or "argue the unreasonable," making debate competitions a training ground for logical thinking and expressive skills.

In the courtroom, however, it is different. Any claims made by either party in litigation must adhere to the sole, objective standard of judgment. There is no room for evading issues, playing with words, or making specious arguments. When utilizing procedural litigation tools, we must always be guided by the pursuit of substantive justice.

Today, this honor is merely an interlude in Lawyer Gu's journey. What truly matters is whether we can use our professional expertise to safeguard the rights and interests of our clients and whether we can remain unwavering in our pursuit of fairness and justice under the law. We will continue to uphold the ethical standards of the legal profession and strive tirelessly toward these goals.
